Cinemix

Cinemix, a cross-media, multidimensional and multisensory work of art, is the live redubbing of silent movie classics. Undeniably, it represents one of the most exciting and challenging facets of “Jetztmusik”. On the one hand, the new musical version refreshes the pictures and gives them a timeliness; on the other, the freshly composed soundtrack, supported by the film, recieves an impressive directness.

This joining of classic movie and new music is an interface-project that is characteristic for the Jetztmusikfestival. Silent movie classics are chosen for their technical-innovative strength, as are the new musicians. They are artists who reside in the electronic music scene, but are also known for cross-border projects and broad musical bandwidth.

In 2009, the Canadian Mathew Jonson could be won to create a musical version of Friedrich Murnau’s 1926 classic silent movie “Faust”. The film captivates with his highly elaborated camera and trick technique which produce an incredible artistical strength. With his talent for strong compositions of incredible depth, Mathew Jonson takes on the innovative power of cinematic art and translates it into electronic music.
